Bob's Blog - No 4 - The Restaurant and Bar - from the ground up!
- 08/04/2008
As promised I would keep you updated on progress of the building and some of the key milestones in the hotel development.
The main contractor is on schedule to complete their works by mid May when the contractor responsible for completing the public area fit out moves in.
The topic of much recent conversation is the restaurant design and layout which has already been the subject of numerous changes.
The restaurant space has come a long way from when the groundwork's started on the Shudehill site back in 2006.
However what to actually put into the space becomes increasingly a balance between customer expectation, operational requirement and personal preference. Everyone involved with the design has different experiences and ideas on how the restaurant should look and feel.
Interpreting all this falls to the responsibility of the designer who has the difficult job of balancing operational demands such as sufficient seating capacity whilst reflecting the modern and contemporary feel of the overall hotel design. No one wants to create a restaurant that looks like a canteen neither do they want to create a something that looks nice but completely useless although some would say BA have had a good go at this with Terminal 5.
We do now have what I hope is close to the final design for the restaurant and one that I believe satisfies both design and functionality. All I need to do now is find some great people to bring the restaurant and bar to life!
The Restaurant and Bar location: In the foreground is the restaurant area, the glass panel at ceiling height is where the private dining room will be located and beyond that on the ground floor is the bar area. Now that we have final designs for the restaurant and bar I am sure the next item will be “what do we call it”,
Any Suggestions ........?
