Bob's Blog No 18 - "Our First Birthday!"

The 29th August 2009 was the hotels first birthday! What an eventful year we have had, no one could have predicted the events of the global financial crisis which took place in our first month of opening and consequently the challenges this has caused everyone. In many ways we have been fortunate as we have had to operate in this difficult environment from day one and have therefore been the “norm” for us.

What has been proven in the hotel sector yet again though is that the guest still expects high standards, service excellence and value, this is what ultimately determines their decision on where to stay. Hotels that have cut costs which impact the guest experience are on a slippery slope. For example we had some guests leave their regular hotel and stay with us simply because they had removed some of the guest amenities such as hot chocolate! often it`s the small things that matter to people.

It is the employees which make a hotel and I am delighted that many of them are also celebrating their 12 months service as the vast majority have been here from the beginning. They are a great team, committed to their work and given the opportunity for a birthday party know how to celebrate!
